Swindon Council were planning to build houses/bungalows on the green space opposite the Shell petrol station on Marlborough Road (known as Coate Sixth Field) in the area shown in red below. We created this website to oppose them building on our green space.
After a long fight, the council finally (and unexpectedly) changed their mind in March 2023. They have now planted trees instead. Hooray!
But the Conservative council still went ahead with their hare brained scheme to fill in perfectly servicable subways next to the green space. Groan.
The council leadership has now changed to Labour, but we still need to be vigilant. We are keeping this website open as a useful place to record any news related to the green space.
